EREN was created by the Regional Goverment in 1996, under law 7/1996.

EREN is Castilla y León energy managing organism to develop, unify and integrate at territorial level all policies approved in different energy-related areas.

Attached to the Regional Ministry for Economics and Employment, EREN´s main tasks are:

  • To encourage and develop energy advise programmes.
  • To further rationalization programmes and promote the implatation of systems for renewable energies production.
  • To study and make recommendations on the use of energy technologies.
  • To advise planning and energy programming, rational use of energy and renewable energies and, to collaborate in the emission of Legislation in energy matters.
  • To promote investments.
  • To participate in the managemente of energy-related grants.

Having elaborated the BAP of Castilla y Leon, EREN will be among the most advanced partners on biomass policy making. As such they will play a critical role in the exchange of experiences on regional bio-energy policy making.

At regional level, EREN will use the project as an opportunity to draft more detailed guidelines for the BAP implementation in joint work with partners. At territorial level, EREN will get benefit from good practices identified in sub-projects and from the transfer of know-how.

Due to its direct relation with the Autonomous government, especially the Ministry of Economy and Employment, the results of the project led by EREN will directly influence and improve the efficiency of policies for bioenergy, with a special focus on good coordination of key-sectoral policies such as agriculture, forestry, waste management, energy, education  and regional and territorial planning.

The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.
