Precise theme tackled by the practice:
Renewable energy, wider use of biomass, heating systems in apartment houses
Location
Country:
Estonia
Region or District or Metropolitan Area or Municipality:
Vana - Vastseliina village
Detailed description of the practice
Description of the practice:
Vana- Vastseliina village, located in South of Estonia, in Vastseliina rural municipality. Apartmenthouse was built in 2006. The building has 12 apartments. Heating system inside house is central heating. The building has local heating system running on woodpellets. It is one and unique example in South Estonia. Pellets are mostly used for heating individual houses. Pellet use in Estonia is very small. By using pellets, residents can keep price for heating under control and lower 1/4 their use of fossil fuels.
Lessons learnt from the practice:
Price of heat energy is lower compared to light oil (by calculations). By using pellets, citizens (apartment house) avoid every year around 31 tons emission of CO2.
