Precise theme tackled by the practice:
Renewable energy. Supply and storage of forest woodfuel for a CHP plant fired with biofuels in Växjö
Objectives of the practice:
The objective with this best practice is to have a reliable and secure supplier of woodchips for the CHP plant in Växjö. The supplier in turn will have a reliable source of income from a large actor on the bioenergy market. The key success factors for this partnership is that both partners have a good understanding about the other's daily operations. The ESCO or heat supplier must be aware of the conditions on the fuel suppliers market and vice versa, to make sure that the cooperation will run as smooth as possible. Good contacts between the fuel supplier and the local forest owners are also a very important factor, and here long term cooperations and partnerships are very important, since the delivery of local fuel is dependent on them. The main stakeholders are VEAB, municipallity owned ESCO, NEOVA AB, privately owned forest industry with focus on district heating, renewable electricity, woodfuels and bioenergy.
Location
Country:
Sweden
Region or District or Metropolitan Area or Municipality:
Södra Sverige - Småland med öarna - Växjö
Lessons learnt from the practice:
In the district heating plants owned by VEAB 95% of the fuel used are biofuels. Fossil oil is only used for peak load. The reduction of CO2 emissions from 1993 to 2008 was 35% in the municipality of Växjö, this is mainly caused by the expansion of district heating and cooling produced from biofuels.
